Unlike many race drivers, Zach didn’t start racing until he was 14. His first passion was ski racing. From the very first time he was put on skis at the young age of 3, as far as he was concerned he was going to be the next Canadian Olympic champion. With numerous wins and podiums all over Canada he was taking all the right steps to success. That was until his parents gave him the chance to try out karting in 2005. Something he had wanted to do ever since he watched racing on TV every weekend! He started racing in 2006 after only a couple of days testing but he figured the best way to learn was trying to keep up with the kids who had been doing this for years! From the age of 14 to 17 he tried juggling both of these sports and eventually he decided he had to make a decision, skiing or racing? Well as far as he was concerned this was an easy one, as much as he loved skiing there was nothing that he loved more then getting behind the wheel and driving as fast as he could.

Karting came naturally to him, in only his fourth ever race, and eighth day in a kart, and second time driving in the rain he finished third at the Coupe de Montréal race at SRA Karting. From there he kept plugging away to try and improve and with very limited testing was trying to gain as much experience as he could at every race weekend. In 2008 he jumped up to the Rotax Senior category where he was named the Québec Karting Rookie of the Year. His first championship came in 2011 when he was the Quebec Rotax DD2 champion as well as standing on the podium at the Canadian National Karting Championships in Mont-Tremblant, Quebec. Later that year he won the Canadian Karting Shootout which was an event put on by Indycar driver James Hinchcliffe aboard Formula 2000 race cars. He capped off his stellar season by being the only Canadian chosen for the Mazda road to Indy scouting combine. In 2012, Zach was the Canadian Rotax DD2 Vice-Champion, which earned him a spot on Team Canada for the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals, a World Championship event in Portugal. In his first time at this prestigious event he managed to finish a strong eighth place against a field of 72 drivers from over 30 countries.

In 2013 he took the next step in his career, choosing to make the jump full time from karting to Formula cars. Having gotten his first taste in a race at the end of the 2012 season he was ready for a full time switch. In the 2013 season he competed in the Toyo Tires F1600 championship where he captured three wins and ended the season as Vice-Champion. He was also named the Rookie of the Year. Thanks to his success he was named as one of two drivers to represent Canada as part of the Team Canada Scholarship program. The program sent him to compete in England at the world renowned Formula Ford Festival where he proved his speed to the world after qualifying in third place, however not earning the end result he had hoped for.

In 2014 Zach competed in select round of the Formula 1600 Super Series as well other Formula 1600 in Canada. Included in the various races was the prestigious Can-Am cup where Zach won the coveted trophy at CTMP. The season ended with his first Formula 2000 race at Watkins Glen International, his first appearance in a F2000 car that brought him a 7th place finish in a field of 30 cars.

In 2015 Zach set out to compete in the newly formed Canadian F2000 series. The first race weekend was a success with him bringing home a win and 2nd place finish meaning he left with the championship lead. Disaster struck at the following weekend when a blown motor meant he could not compete that weekend and effectively ending his F2000 championship for the season. Not one to let disaster get in his way he decided to get back in a 1600 car for select races including the Canadian GP where he won the Sunday feature race after qualifying on pole. In another 8 races throughout the summer, he secured 3 more wins, and 5 podium finishes.
